Description
These are vintage script reproductions I’ve had in my collection for nearly 20 years. The cover for Episode One is pink and interior pages are blue.
The cover for Episode Two is light green and interior pages are grey.
These episodes were unproduced and written by Rod Serling as a pilot and second episode.
Neither script is dated. Episode One is labeled Revised on the cover, Episode Two is labeled First.
The first episode reads as a sequel to the original film, or at least a version of it. Our heroes are looking for Taylor and his crew, although the names of his crew are different from the original film, with no female member. They meet Galen, who tries to help them and eventually winds up joining them on the run from the ape leaders. Zaius wants to learn from the astronauts and Ursus wants them destroyed. So the bare bones of the series as we know it are established.
In the second episode Ursus and his gorillas are pursuing the fugitives. His son Zonda is injured and treated by our heroes after being saved from the other gorillas by a fusillade of arrows. The archers are a group of humans who live underground, beneath New York City. They want to execute Galen and Zonda but Virdon suggests a trial. The defense involves Kovak and Galen both quoting from William Shakespeare’s
The Merchant of Venice
. (Fortunately, Galen doesn’t claim it’s William Apespeare instead.)
